Engineering Intern (Spring and/or Summer 2009 full-time co-op)

The ideal candidate for this position is working towards a computer science, electrical engineering, or computer engineering degree and is a 3rd or 4th year student. The candidate will be responsible for executing tests on ThingMagic products. In addition, the candidate will be expected to suggest and integrate improvements into the test software. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining and updating a database of test results. At the completion of the internship the candidate will have been exposed to and improved their skills in the following areas:

  • Automating test scripts
  • Creating tools to normalize data for database insertion
  • Creating scripts to interact with laboratory equipment and the results database
  • Executing performance tests and deriving new performance metrics from test data
Skills Required:

Knowledge of at least one of the following programming or scripting languages

  • National Instruments LabVIEW
  • Python
  • LRuby
  • C/C++
  • PHP / MySQL or other database experience

Familiarity with RF and/or digital test equipment

  • Spectrum Analyzers
  • Signal Generators
  • Power Meters
  • Oscilloscopes

Ability to work independently
Excellent documentation and communication skills
Minimum GPA - 3.0/4.0

Sales Director

The Sales Director is an individual contributor role that will be responsible for creating and maximizing revenue opportunities within a defined geographic region or market segment.

The successful candidate will work with exceptional colleagues in a casual and stimulating environment. ThingMagic offers competitive compensation with a great benefits package.

Responsibilities include:
  • Developing sales strategies to identify and close new opportunities and maximize revenue from existing clients within the region or market segment.
  • Coordinating sales, marketing, engineering and support resources to provide a seamless customer experience.
  • Maintaining a high degree of technical knowledge to effectively communicate the capabilities and features of ThingMagic products, and have the ability to overcome common sales objections.
  • Fostering positive, long term relationships with customers so that ThingMagic is viewed as a trusted partner and not just a supplier.

  • Track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.

Director of Engineering

ThingMagic is looking for a Director of Engineering to run its hardware and software engineering departments. The successful candidate will have 8+ years of experience in building and managing organizations with diverse, highly talented engineering staff who work on a variety of modern technologies, including ASIC-based real-time software radio systems for RFID and embedded Linux systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage Hardware and Software Engineering Departments to program plan
  • Manage regulatory compliance testing of products utilizing external test houses
  • Manage hardware and software budget
  • Work closely with Program Manager to adhere to schedule and budget
Key Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience in leading small to medium scale engineering organizations to deliver products on-time and within budget
  • Prior experience managing development to a product life-cycle process
  • Prior experience managing departmental budgets
  • Thorough understanding of modern embedded/networked/wireless devices at the system and component level. This includes business and technical knowledge of wireless networking technology, wireless sensor technology, RF ASICS, networking technology, enterprise-grade hardware and software, networking protocols and device interfaces.
  • Detailed understanding of modern communication systems, including ability to manage a team to conceive of, design, implement, diagnose, validate and certify a wireless product.
  • Ability to work with senior management, program manager, technical staff, peers and customers
  • Strong oral and computer-based communication and management skills including MS Office and Project.
  • Prior experience in the RF/Microwave, RFID or Wireless industry
  • Advanced degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or Physics and (highly desirable) management.

Embedded Software Engineer

ThingMagic is adding an embedded software engineer to our team to further develop our market-leading embedded module products. The successful candidate will be part of a team focused on the development and integration of leading-edge physical/MAC layer interfaces to RFID protocols. ThingMagic provides excellent benefits and a competitive salary.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, implementation, integration and testing of radio interfaces at the physical layer.
  • Involved with low level hardware bring-up and debugging of the firmware and drivers.
  • Investigating and resolving integration and performance related issues for the mixed signal RF hardware.
Key Requirements:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • Understanding of radio physical/MAC layer control, signal processing, interaction between the physical layer and upper layers is essential.
  • Multifaceted, flexible, and able to learn new skills.
  • 3+ years of experience in embedded software development in C, assembly, DSP/microcontroller firmware.
  • Experience in developing physical layer software, baseband signal processing and interfacing to RF hardware.
  • Modular, layered software design experience either on DSP or MCU.
  • Experience in simulation, test tools and languages such as Matlab and Labview.
  • Familiarity with wireless standards, particularly those related to radio protocols.
  • Experience in protocol stack integration, lab and field testing of physical/MAC layer would be a definite asset.
  • Experience with RFID and RFID RF ASICs would be a definite asset.
  • Ability to work with the validation team for designing validation tests.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
